Points of Unity
__Students United for a Free CUNY (SUFC) operates under the principles of
respect, awareness, inclusivity, responsibility and self-determination,
providing a safe space for developing social, political, and self
awareness. SUFC is committed to women's rights, LGBTQ rights, immigrant
rights, civil and political rights, and actively works against all forms
of sexism, racism, sexual violence and oppression.
1. We believe that education is a right and that students have the right to shape and influence what their education looks like. We are dedicated to educating the youth and creating effective pathways for all students to reach higher education.
2. We demand financial responsibility and accountability from representatives, tax reform, and the reallocation of funds for a free, accessible, and democratic education at CUNY. We also advocate for student debt forgiveness.
3. We are against the privatization of public education and support open admissions. Furthermore, We support the establishment and sustainment of Ethnic Studies, Gender Studies and Labor Studies Departments that incorporate truthful historical accounts and cultural narratives.
4. We believe that the campus is not a place for NYPD or violent security forces, and condemns all acts of brutality against students, and in streets of New York City, people of color.
5. We support faculty in their right to benefits and a respectable salary for equal labor, with a faculty of color in proportion to the ethnic composition of the working people in New York City. Furthermore, we believe we must keep administration accountable for their actions and protect students' rights.
